Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born on January 16, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York. She died very tragically on August 25, 2001 in Marsh Harbout, Abaco Island in the Bahamas in an airplane crash just as her career as an award winning singer and performer was taking off. This brilliant young woman get her big break on the television show Star Search in 1983.
